There is no lack of books, training videos and websites devoted to solutions, suggestions and products designed for children who wet their beds.

Adults who involuntarily wet themselves during sleep often feel ashamed and afraid to mention their issue to anyone, even their own doctor. This is an unfortunate mistake.

Both adult men and women can suffer from uncontrollable bed wetting and it\’s often a psychologically painful ailment to admit to a doctor. Adults who wet the bed may be awakened by their condition or sleep through it entirely and only learn of their problems when they awaken.

Not all adults have the same types of bed wetting issues. Some adults have grown up wetting the bed all their lives, while some adults later develop a bed wetting problem after having years of no problems at all.

Adults who wet their beds over their lifetimes are said to suffer from primary nocturnal enuresis, which is often considered the more difficult type of enuresis to treat. It often leads to psychological issues and low-self esteem.

Adult onset enuresis, or secondary nocturnal enuresis, is a type of bed wetting which adults are said to suffer from when they develop their habits later in life and have not spent their entire lives suffering.

Many times adults who begin wetting the bed later in life unknowingly contribute to their own problems. Excessive alcohol, caffeine or even drug use could all lead to adult bed wetting. Anxiety can also lead to occasional bed wetting amongst adults who don\’t normally have a problem sleeping and staying dry through the night.

Depending on the root cause, there are many different medical treatments available. A qualified medical professional or urologist should be able to help you determine the causes of your bed wetting issues. The treatment is almost always determined by the cause and the solution could be as easy as some simple behavior modifications and exercises or you may need special medication or even surgery in rare cases.

Some reports estimate that 2% – 3% of all adults suffer from nocturnal enuresis at some point. The good news is that there is lots of help for adults who wet the bed and visiting a doctor is a good first step.

No matter what type of adult bed wetting you suffer from there could be an easy and effective cure waiting for you. Informing your doctor about your bed wetting issues could improve your life.
