Permanent Eyelash Extensions – The New Age Alternative

‘Velvety, long eyelashes shading luminous eyes’- if you are wishing you were the recipient of such lines but are only too woefully aware of your own stubby ones, don’t despair. Cosmetic technology has made giant strides and what was once impossible has become a reality. Lotions, creams, conditioners, false eyelashes and what not can give you those long dreamy eyelashes but only temporarily. Permanent eyelash extensions, as the term suggests, will give you eyelashes which will be bonded on to your eyelids forever.

This process is a type of plastic surgery involving taking out hair from your head and sewing it on the eyelids. Since hair follicles are being transplanted, it means that the hair on the eyelids will grow like normal hair and will need to be cut and trimmed regularly. The surgery is permanent and no rebonding is further required unlike in semi-permanent extensions.

The hair follicles which have been transplanted grow like normal hair on the eyelids also. This means that the eyelashes need to be trimmed and cut regularly and should be curled. The entire procedure takes about a couple of hours and around 30 new eyelashes are grafted per eye. The entire surgery is very expensive but it is a one-time affair, so, many prefer it to constantly struggling with false eyelashes or temporary eyelash extensions.

For those who are apprehensive about getting permanent eyelashes but are equally not keen on false eyelashes, a semi permanent eyelash may be the answer. In this, synthetic hair is bonded on to the real eyelashes and the effect lasts for about two months. Rebonding is required after that period if one wishes to continue with the look.

But, please know, that this procedure too takes a fairly long time with the added disadvantage of having to repeat it every other two months.

But, as with any other surgery permanent eyelash extensions also have their fair share of risks like injury or infection. So, go ahead with it only if you are truly keen on those movie-star type eyelashes.
