Body Weight Exercises Are The Fastest Way To Lose Weight
There is a huge health problem that is getting worse every year in western society. This problem itself causes many other problems, some of which are leading causes of death. The problem, of course, is obesity. More than sixty percent of adults today are obese. And we seem to be getting fatter. Whenever you exercise, you are either building up strength, or endurance, or a mix of both. Endurance exercises are commonly thought to be the best for losing weight. Running, walking, swimming are great while you are doing the actual exercise, but they don’t contribute as much to increases in metabolism that strength training does.
When you do strength training, you will increase your resting metabolism. This means that you will be burning more calories while you are just sitting around. Any exercise that leaves you gasping for air after a couple minutes is a strength building exercise.
Most people tend to shy away from these, as they are afraid of getting huge muscles. But if you focus on a large number of repetitions, and a relatively light weight, this won’t happen. The ideal exercises for this are body weight exercises. Push ups, sit ups, any form of yoga that uses your body weight as the resistance is perfect. Jumping rope or running up the stairs is perfect for this, especially if you can only do it for a minute or two.
Of course, it helps to mix in a little bit of cardiovascular exercise. But you don’t need to spend hours a week on the bike or the treadmill. Many people are happy to discover that only a few minutes a day of body weight exercises is all you need to get in really good shape, really quickly.
