Losing weight and staying healthy is very simple if you can stick to a low calorie diet plan eating nutritious foods. By lowering your calorie intake each day you will most certainly shed the extra pounds your body does not need. You might think it sounds simple but you don’t know always how to start, here are a few tips you can follow. if can you follow these simple steps, this type of diet program will allow you to lose weight safely and effectively.

How do calories work is not a mystery . . . It takes only 3,500 excess calories to create a pound of fat in your body. You would be amazed at how easy it is to create this one pound of fat in just one week by eating only 500 extra calories each day. 500 calories is an order of french fries or a scoop of your favorite ice cream, times that by 7 days a week and you get your 3,500 calories or in other words your one pound of fat. As you can see, it does not take much effort in this day and age to gain weight with just an order of french fries every day. When you are watching TV and your body is at rest it burns approximately 12 calories per pound of body weight per day. Let’s say your present weight is 200 pounds – you use 200 x 12 = 2,400 calories per day. (12 calories per pound per day is only an estimate)

You can follow different steps to achieve and maintain a low calorie diet. Here are some tips: 1. Keeping a Calorie Counting Journal – This will help you get organized, as well as more aware of the calories you eat each day. Here you will list each food, it’s calories and you will be able to manage your calorie intake on a daily basis. It will help you make wiser choices in gearing you towards a lower calories foods. To count calories has been made simple of the last decade, the FDA requires each food item in the supermarket to have a label with it’s ingredients and calories per serving. If you eat out, many establishments can provide you with a list of the food ingredients with the calories per serving.

Step 2. Figure out the amount of calories you need for each day. Pick a weight you would like to reach and maintain. Now, calculate how many calories you consume on a daily basis by checking with your Calorie Counting Journal.

3. Compare the difference between the number of calories you need and the number of calories you take in each day. The difference is where the extra pounds are coming from. It can be as simple as cutting out a certain food or high calorie drink you consume each day that will eventually reduce your calories. For example, there is a coffee shop on my way to work, I love the White Chocolate Mocha with the whipped cream on top. I found out, after asking an employee how many calories are in that drink. If I cut out this daily drink, not only do I save money, I save 3,500 calories – a week!!! wow!

4. Very important – add exercise to the mix, so that you can raise the number of calories you can consume a day, and keep your body functioning at it’s optimum, while reducing stress.

If you’re really serious in maintaining a low calorie diet plan, consider these tips and perhaps, start out by making a list of low calorie foods that you like and that are healthy.
